We would like to express or congratulations to Past Master David Burbidge CBE, DL who chaired Coventry’s winning bid to become City of Culture in 2021.

John Glen MP announced Coventry as UK City of Culture 2021 on 8 December.

The other shortlisted cities were Sunderland, Paisley, Stoke and Swansea.

The title was awarded to Coventry in recognition of the benefits that it would bring to the young and diverse people of the city and for the scale of the benefit to the whole of the UK and the ambition of Coventry’s bid.

Hull, the holders of the title in 2017, have estimated the value to their economy at over £1 billion and that it has dramatically changed perceptions of their city.

David has strong links with Coventry, with family business kitchen furniture manufacturer Burbidge being based in the city.
