The Design Guild Mark, awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company, hosted a special breakfast briefing at Sleep –The Hotel Design Event (21-22 November) to reveal plans on the expansion into 2D design.

The prestigious Design Guild Mark rewards excellence and raises the profile of British design and innovation.

The mark has traditionally recognised the highest standards in the design of furniture for volume production, by the finest designers working in Britain, or British designers working abroad.

For the first time in the Design Guild Mark’s 10 year history, it will be adding a 2D design category – rewarding excellence in fabrics, textiles, wall coverings, floor coverings and carpets.

The breakfast briefing took place at the Sleeper Bar at The Business Design Centre, London on Wednesday 22 November.

Rodney McMahon, chairman of the Design Guild Mark, said: “Now in its 10th year, the Design Guild Mark continues to attract a very high calibre of entries that are then judged by our independent and expert panel. With the mark gaining international recognition as a designation of excellence, now is the perfect time to expand into 2D design and recognise this vital sector in the interiors community.”
