School Design Prize

About the School Design Prize

The School Design Prize is our unique award given to promising young students in schools across the country each year. Together with our generous industry sponsors, we aim to inspire young people to consider a furnishing related career.

We are dedicated to helping young people find the road to success within the furnishing industry. The School Design Prize, aimed at students at both GCSE and further education levels, is part of our wider programme of activities designed to raise the awareness of the furnishing industry among young people and to inspire students to consider a career within our industry.

The prize is intended to tie in with Design & Technology curriculum. Towards the end of the academic year, we will send your school a prize to be presented to the student the teacher thinks is most deserving, for a good piece of design coursework linked to furnishing. Photographs of the winners will be presented on our website, and the school will be invited to submit their student for the opportunity to exhibit their work at the YFM Exhibition in London.

About the prize

This year the prize is a copy of Modern British Furniture – design since 1945  by design historian Lesley Jackson.

Each book contains a certificate in the inside cover describing the award with a space for the name of the winning student to be filled in by their teacher.

Along with the book we also include a poster, designed by a school student, explaining some of the career opportunities within the furnishing industry which we hope could be displayed at your school!
