A party of forty members and guests visited the Battle of Britain Bunker, where they were treated to an exceptional guided tour. Our guide, Chris, delivered a thoughtful and deeply engaging account of the struggle for air supremacy during the summer of 1940.

The Operations Room

Drawing on the original features of the underground control centre, he brought to life the tense decisions, rapid communications, and steadfast resolve that shaped the course of the campaign. His clear explanations and vivid descriptions gave everyone a renewed appreciation for the skill and bravery of those who served there.

It was an informative and moving visit, and all who attended left with a stronger understanding of the historic role the bunker played in securing victory during Britain’s finest hour.

Over a convivial buffet lunch at the museum we were able to reflect on the tour; and Past Master, Hugh Garforth-Bles, in thanking Lizzie Shaw and the Southern Region Committee for the organisation, noted the value of these regional events in renewing old acquaintances and forging new friendships in the furniture industry.
