Internationally acclaimed product and furniture designer Sebastian Conran is to return to present the awards at the Young Furniture Makers exhibition in October.

Organised by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the Young Furniture Makers exhibition is a vibrant, one-day show of furniture designed and made by some of the UK’s most talented, upcoming young designers from GCSE students to postgraduates.

Around 90 pieces will be on display at this year’s event, sponsored by Axminster Tools & Machinery, Harveys Furniture, Bensons for Beds, and The Furniture Ombudsman, which is taking place on 10 October (1.00pm-9.00pm) at the Dutch Church and Furniture Makers’ Hall in Austin Friars, London.

Hayden Davies, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, will officially welcome guests from across the furnishing and design sector at 7.00pm before the guest of honour, Sebastian Conran, presents this year’s prizes.

Sebastian Conran, CEO of Sebastian Conran Associates, said: “The 2017 show was really outstanding, displaying some great new talent and a general intelligence that demonstrated not only a practical understanding into use of materials, finishes and fabrication methods; but also an excellent insight into current and future trends. I saw a lot of very professional work that might have a lot of commercial potential, but also fresh thinking in an industry that is experiencing significant change.”

Debbie Johnson, Young Furniture Makers chairman, said: “The Young Furniture Makers exhibition brings together all elements of The Furniture Makers’ Company’s wide education output, the culmination being a tremendous celebration of incredibly talented young designers who want to build long and successful careers in the industry. We are absolutely delighted to welcome back Sebastian Conran for the second year as our guest of honour.”
