British luxury bedmaker Hypnos has announced it is now Planet Mark Certified – Net Zero Committed, pledging to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.

For more than 120 years, Hypnos has been handcrafting mattresses in Britain using natural materials and traditional techniques. Known for its ethos of “comfort with integrity,” the brand is taking its long-standing sustainability values further with a new transition plan certified by Planet Mark.

The commitment sets near-term goals for 2033, including a 55% reduction in Scope 1 and 3 emissions and a 90% cut in Scope 2 emissions from a 2023/24 baseline. By 2040, the company aims to deliver a 90% reduction across all scopes, with any unavoidable emissions offset through carbon removals.

Steve Malkin, founder of Planet Mark, said: “Committing to a net zero transition plan is a significant milestone. Hypnos has already shown leadership as a carbon-neutral business for almost 15 years. This roadmap is the next big leap, supported by strong data and supply chain engagement.”

Recent progress includes a 22.9% reduction in measured emissions in 2023/24, with Hypnos consolidating operations, adopting a new ERP system, switching to electric vehicles and bio-diesel, and cutting transport emissions by nearly 60%.

Hypnos Group managing director David Baldry said the milestone reflects “the significant efforts of the Hypnos team working together across all areas of the business, alongside partner suppliers guided by Planet Mark.” He added that integrating sustainability into every management role is helping drive tangible results.

CEO James Keen noted the move reflects Hypnos’s belief that “great sleep shouldn’t cost the earth,” highlighting the company’s heritage of craftsmanship and environmental responsibility, including supplying the Royal Households since 1929.
