Description

The Harpsden kitchen was designed around a series of self-contained working zones that could be used collaboratively or independently of each other at different times or occasions during the day. They can be discretely hidden from view when not in use behind programmable switchable glass screens or bi-folding doors. These included a breakfast and coffee station, a meal preparation area, the main cooking area and a drinks and wine area. Each containing all the necessary appliances, equipment and specific storage requirements for specific tasks to be carried out with ease within these zones.

A pallet of materials was used within the design including Fumed red gum veneer, polished brass, Carrara Marble and smoked glass. We created stand out focal points within the design with the striking figuring of the Red Gum veneer, running seamlessly across the cabinetry. Other areas of the design were finished in a more muted paint colour allowing the lazer cut, polished brass trims, plinths and handles to create highlights within the design and add an element of luxury. Subtle shadow details were used where different materials interacted with each other to maintain clean lines and create a crisp transition from one material to the next. Carrara marble worktops with large apron front edges where used as a contrast to the dark veneers in some areas, whilst a darker and more durable textured granite was used in areas more prone to harsher use and to compliment the smoked glass screens.

Bespoke solutions were created within the cabinetry, including wireless charging drawers at the breakfast bar, integrated bread and coffee capsule storage within the breakfast station, a bespoke brass drip tray in the wine store and numerous bespoke drawers for cutlery, utensils, spices, oils and dry food storage.

The finished result was a very successful cohesion of meticulously executed craftsmanship across a variety of materials and the integration of the very latest in modern appliance technology to give a stunning and highly functional kitchen for day to day to use and for entertaining guest.

About

I have worked within the furniture making industry for nearly 25 years. Starting my career at the bench as a cabinet maker before establishing and growing DOIG Furniture as a company over the past 18 years from our workshops in Oxfordshire.
DOIG Furniture are manufacturers of luxury bespoke furniture and cabinetry for the finest homes, specialising in fitted room schemes including kitchens, wine rooms, dressing rooms and larger whole house projects.

The design and manufacture of this kitchen was very much a collaborative team effort across the business with the design being curated between myself (Duncan Doig – Company Director) and our project design manager Josh Evans. The design was then realised within our workshops by our team of highly skilled cabinet makers.
