Court assistant presents at Livery Climate Action Group AGM
The Furniture Makers’ Company was honoured to be invited to present at the Livery Climate Action Group’s AGM and Livery Company Collaboration event.
Held on Tuesday 24 June at the Urban Farmer project in the City of London, the event provided an opportunity for livery companies to learn about efforts towards greater sustainability and to encourage their climate action work within their own Companies and to support the pan-livery spirit of progress in taking practical steps to limit the effects of climate change.

Hosted by alderman Alison Gowman CBE, the event also included presentations by Andrew Kennett CBE, clerk to The Skinners’ Company; Rob Casey, Past Master at the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators; and James Stopford CBE, who spoke about food issues.
Joanna Knight, chairman of the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee at the Furniture Makers’ Company, provided an overview of the work of the committee and the milestones since its formation in 2022.
“The committee is focused upon developing opportunities for knowledge sharing and championing ‘best practice’ within the furniture and furnishing sectors,” explained Joanna Knight. “We have already hosted four major events designed to support our industry on the journey to greater sustainability.”
The most recent seminar was held in March at Furniture Makers’ Hall. Including presentations from a number of representatives from across the sector, the ‘sold out’ event focussed on examining some of the established and widely used manufacturing materials.
“Our events provide an excellent opportunity for the industry to engage in a wide range of discussions to encourage greater understanding and the introduction of new initiatives to promote a more sustainable future,” continued Joanna. “The committee is currently planning its next event to be held later in the year.”
