Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) is less than a month away now (22-24 May) and visitors can look forward to London’s furniture district once again becoming awash with fresh designs, creative installations and inspiring talks.

As always, the Design Guild Mark ceremony will be held during the event, this year on Tuesday 22 May  at Bisley’s fantastic new showroom on Dallington Street.

For the first time, the ceremony will include the holders of both the furniture and new 2D category, and the Jonathan Hindle Prize winners – awarded to the most outstanding design in each category – will be announced on the day.

Until then, we’ve put together a trail of where you can see some of 2018’s holders.

Allermuir
Allermuir continues to live up to its Anything but ordinary strapline as three of its designs received Design Guild Marks in 2018. Allermuir’s huge showroom on Northburgh Street is a must visit while visiting CDW as you’ll be able to see the awarded AXYL chair and Mozaik and Famiglia seating families.

Benchmark
Renowned as a powerhouse of British craft, Benchmark will take its place among other companies in the British Collection, located in the barrel roofed Crypt on Clerkenwell Green at St James’s Church. Benchmark’s Aphelion Console, designed by young design duo Byron & Gomez, was awarded a Mark in 2018.

Boss Design
Exhibiting from its newly refurbished showroom on Clerkenwell Road, Boss Design will be guiding visitors through the importance of habitats in workplace design, alongside numerous seating and table products, developed to support emerging working patterns and foster wellbeing in the workplace. Among them will be DGM awardee the Manta sofa, which Boss says harmonises handcrafted luxury with a contemporary edge.

Bute Fabrics
One of three companies to have been awarded a Design Guild Mark in the new 2D category, Bute Fabrics will be officially launching Design Guild Mark awardee the Alchemy Collection within the Design Fields element of CDW at Spa Fields. The collection is vibrant and colourful and worth the trip to see!

Modus
Designed by PearsonLloyd for Modus Furniture, the Edge Executive Desk is a flexible system that enables the user to create their own tailor-made composition. The collection’s Design Guild Mark success is the latest accolade after scooping an FX award last year. Visitors to CDW will be able to view the Edge collection at Modus’s Great Sutton Street showroom.

Panaz
Another one of the inaugural holders of the 2D category, Panaz was awarded a Design Guild Mark for the Silicastone collection – a unique, solid surface material that is able to be cast in large surfaces up to 40mm thick from tiles and bricks. Panaz will be exhibiting in the Project section within beautiful grounds of St James Church.

Thinking Works

The optional terrarium feature on the Thinking Quietly office furniture collection from Thinking Works really caught the eye of the Design Guild Mark judges. Designers Jones & Partners consulted acoustic engineers as part of the design process and advanced acoustic materials were chosen to create a balanced sound environment. Make sure you pay a visit to the Thinking Works showroom on Clerkenwell Road to see it for yourself.

While you’re walking round, be sure to also stop by the likes of Bisley, deVol, Ercol, Morgan, Knightsbridge Furniture – all recipients of Design Guild Marks from yesteryear and will undoubtedly have lots of inspiring new designs. Happy trails!
