The shape of these beautiful seats is not something that has been carefully designed to look a certain way; it is a shape that bodies – more specifically, bums – have formed naturally by simply sitting on thick slabs of wet clay. Right from the beginning we knew that we wanted to create furniture that was all about comfort, and so, for most of the design process, we paid little attention to stylistic, material and production restrictions to avoid compromising our form in any way. What we have ended up with is the most comfortable wooden stool and dining chair that we have ever sat on! Unburdened by superficial constraints, The Bum Stool and The Bum Chair support healthy posture and yet remain simple and visually stunning pieces of furniture. Both crafted in solid oak, the shape of the seat is complemented by the natural figure of the timber. The perfectly contoured seat pan ensures that your body weight is distributed evenly across your whole bum, instead of just the two extremities of your pelvic bones. This is very important for people with misaligned spines or chronic pelvic pain disorder.
