Henryk’s story

Henryk, an employed upholsterer at an office furniture company, was left shocked and unable to work after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Henryk expected to be back at work a few weeks after his operation, but complications in surgery meant his recovery was going to be slow.

The lack of income resulted in him quickly using up his savings to pay for essential household bills, and he soon ended up overdrawn with the bank.

Henryk was very worried that he might lose his flat if he couldn’t pay the rent and the constant stress was becoming detrimental to his recovery.

He contacted The Furniture Makers’ Company for support after hearing about the charity from The Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF)

We were happy to give him a grant to cover his rent for two months and help with some of his regular bills until he was able to return to work.

Henryk said the financial support was “a lifesaver”.
