The British Furniture Confederation is today celebrating the successful completion of one of its key objectives, following Lord Mandelson’s statement on credit insurance. Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has announced the backdating of the Government’s trade credit insurance top-up scheme to include suppliers who had their cover reduced since 1 October last year. Previously, the Scheme was only available to companies who had cover reduced since April this year.

HRH the Duke of Kent visited The Frederick Parker Foundation to celebrate their 10th Anniversary of acquiring the Chair Collection and placing it for study by furniture students interested in the history, design, restoration and manufacture of chairs. The Duke was introduced by Martin Jourdan , Past Master, to senior members of the University, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Robert Aylett, head of the department Professor Brian Falconbridge, and Dr John Cross a senior lecturer and Trustee of the Foundation.

The most important event of the Company’s year, the Installation Service and Dinner, once again took place in magnificent City venues of St Mary-le-Bow and the Mansion House.

For the first time in her stewardship the Clerk had no control over the seating plan at a company dinner. On 30 April Jan Wright, with her husband,Peter, were seated next to the Master at Furniture Makers’ Hall to mark the retirement of Jan as Clerk at the the end of the Company’s current year.

In spite of the current economic turmoil the Master, Margaret Miller, was able to provide an upbeat report to Common Hall attended by about 40 Liverymen and Freemen on St George’s Day.

Following the post-United Guilds Service lunch at Furniture Makers' Hall the Master was pleased to receive an addition to our Treasures providing an interesting link with the industry's history.

In 1943 the Livery Companies and Guilds of the City of London met for a service in St. Paul's Cathedral to uplift the spirits of the City following the Blitz of the World War 2.
